FRENCH WINE TASTING IS FUN
Wine is a sociable
drink. It induces conviviality and a true wine lover takes great
pleasure in sharing his experiences with others.
Wine tasting is a
most exciting hobby. It is a source of unending discoveries; a
challenge to knowledge, ingenuity and taste; an occasion for
friendly meetings and an inexhaustible topic of animated
conversation.

It is flexible in
cost, size and scope. There are unlimited combinations and
comparisons possible between wines and there is nothing more
personal than the selection of which wines to present and in
which pattern.
Wine tasting as a
hobby may be a serious pursuit. Very often it is simply a way of
having a party which is different and exciting. In any event,
wine tastings are organized along the same general lines.
Selection of Wines
The basic principle
of wine tasting is that comparison between wines sets off the
characteristics and degree of greatness in each one. This
comparison between wines is what makes the difference between
wine tasting and wine drinking.
It is fun to taste
any selection of French wines. It is truly exciting when wines
have been selected because there is a common ground for
comparison between them, as for instance, red or white wines
from different regions. or wines from different districts of the
same region.
There are French
wines for all tastes and budgets. There are very reasonably
priced ones and expensive ones too. The very great and expensive
wines are, of course, worth the money and it is a good idea to
include one or two of the very great Bordeaux or Burgundies if
the budget allows it.
But it is not
essential and a good regional or parish wine has all the typical
qualities which makes it different from wines produced anywhere
else. It is better to compare wines on the same level of
greatness, because then it is possible to get a fair opinion
about each one. If there is one of the very great included. it
should be considered rather like the grand finale of a marvelous
show.
