The Gare Montparnasse is
one of the busiest railway stations in Paris serving Brittany and
the entire Atlantic seaboard all the way to the Spanish border. Along with the local
metro, suburban and national
train lines this station is always brim full with activity.
Make sure you arrive well in advance to catch your train.
Gare Montparnasse actually incorporates 3 separate stations.
(1-Maine, 2-Pasteur and 3-Vaugirard). All, metro and suburban trains
depart from Maine. Your ticket will indicate from which station you
leave.
Interested in a bit of history? 1990 was a pivotal date for the
launch of the TGV Atlantic. The Gare Montparnasse went through a
total facelift and expansion. The characteristic rounded main facade
which evokes the waves is entirely made of glass.
The new name "Porte Océane"... doorway to the Ocean...
prepares you for the Atlantic seaboard. To, Brittany, Nantes, La
Rochelle, Biarritz, Hendaye... your trip starts at the Gare
Montparnasse.
