before construction. It's on the N35,
the Voie Sacrée, the "Holy Highway" that heads
into Verdun.
The vicious battle here during WWI turned the tables with a heroic
defense by the French
and Allied armies. Over the 10 months in 1916 French and German forces
had 300.000 dead and missing and 400.000 wounded.
