This village situated on the Giffre River, listed in the French national registry as a "designated historical site" (because of its examples of magnificent stone-cutting), has managed to preserve its traditional architecture. Samoëns is thus a splendid village, enhanced by a natural setting worthy of the most beautiful landscapes in Haute-Savoie. The piste departure point is several minutes away by shuttle bus, a situation usually considered as a drawback. But it is this detail that preserves the village's main assets: calm and authenticity. As for skiing, Samoëns is linked to the Grand Massif (265 km of pistes). However, due to its somewhat low altitude, the trip back to the resort can entail rather precarious snow cover conditions. Green ski slope for Learners. These are usually not marked trails, but tend to be large open, gently sloping areas at the base of the ski area.  3 slopes Blue ski slope are Easy. Similar to the North American Green Circle, and are almost always groomed, or on so shallow a slope as not to need it  9 slopes Red ski slopes are Intermediate. Steeper, or narrower than a blue slope, these are usually groomed, unless the narrowness of the trail prohibits it  11 slopes Black ski slopes are Difficult. Steep, may or may not be groomed, or may be groomed for mogul. It is worth noting that 'Black' can be a very wide classification, ranging from a slope marginally more difficult than a 'Red' to an icy mogulfield  6 slopes
