Located at the foot of the Croix de Fer Pass, the La Maurienne resort is part of a ski area encompassing Les Bottières, Le Corbier, Saint-Jean d'Arves and La Toussuire. This resort, twenty kilometres from Saint-Jean de Maurienne, has managed to preserve the atmosphere of a rustic and isolated little mountain village while, at the same time, offering visitors a competitive link to neighbouring resorts. Green ski slope for Learners. These are usually not marked trails, but tend to be large open, gently sloping areas at the base of the ski area.  4 slopes Blue ski slope are Easy. Similar to the North American Green Circle, and are almost always groomed, or on so shallow a slope as not to need it  10 slopes Red ski slopes are Intermediate. Steeper, or narrower than a blue slope, these are usually groomed, unless the narrowness of the trail prohibits it  9 slopes Black ski slopes are Difficult. Steep, may or may not be groomed, or may be groomed for mogul. It is worth noting that 'Black' can be a very wide classification, ranging from a slope marginally more difficult than a 'Red' to an icy mogulfield  2 slopes
