MONTGENÈVRE | 1850 - 2700 m               The Milky Way
Just 2 kilometres from the Italian border stands the picturesque resort of Montgenèvre-the only French departure point among the 400 kms of pistes in the "Via Lattea" region. Although the return to Sestrières, the central resort of this ski area, is quite difficult, Montgenèvre nonetheless offers a vast expanse of pistes that provide access to the ""Voie Lactée" ["Milky Way"] for skiers of all levels.

Green ski slope for Learners. These are usually not marked trails, but tend to be large open, gently sloping areas at the base of the ski area.  9 slopes Blue ski slope are Easy. Similar to the North American Green Circle, and are almost always groomed, or on so shallow a slope as not to need it  16 slopes Red ski slopes are Intermediate. Steeper, or narrower than a blue slope, these are usually groomed, unless the narrowness of the trail prohibits it  23 slopes Black ski slopes are Difficult. Steep, may or may not be groomed, or may be groomed for mogul. It is worth noting that 'Black' can be a very wide classification, ranging from a slope marginally more difficult than a 'Red' to an icy mogulfield  11 slopes
